Implants: not screws you can forget about forever

A dental implant is often seen as a permanent solution. Many people therefore think: "There is a screw in my jaw, so I never need to think about it again."

If only it were that simple.

An implant is indeed an artificial tooth root that is firmly placed in the jawbone. But an implant also needs daily care.

Your oral health continues to play an important role.

Why maintenance matters so much

Plaque and bacteria can build up around an implant just as easily as around your own teeth.

If the implant and the surrounding gums are not cleaned properly, inflammation can develop. This can gradually cause the bone around the implant to disappear.

If that process progresses too far, the implant may eventually become loose.

Yes… a dental implant can be lost too.

How to keep an implant healthy

An implant needs attention every day.

✔ Brush carefully

Brush at least twice a day and pay extra attention to the area where the implant meets the gum.

✔ Clean between your teeth

Use interdental brushes, floss or other aids that suit your individual situation.

✔ Have it checked regularly

Visit your dental hygienist regularly for professional cleaning and a check-up.
